The events on this page have a start date and an end date, including groups that are limited in time and are closed to enrollment once they have started. 6-Week Book Chat: Beyond Addiction: How Science and Kindness Help People Change

Do you have a loved one who is struggling with addictions or substance use? Family and friends need recovery from the chaos of addiction as much as their loved ones.

We will explore how we can use kindness, positive reinforcement, and motivational and behavioral strategies to help ourselves and others change. Attenders will receive support, tools, hope, and a way of being that invites growth in all their relationships. Purchasing and reading the book may be helpful, but optional. You will receive handouts for each part of the book.

Participants are welcome to join at any time during the 6 weeks.

Understand & Leverage CRAFT Through The Stages of Change

More than anything, if your child is misusing drugs or alcohol, you probably want to understand why they’re doing what they’re doing and to make sense of their thinking, actions and behavior.

The best way to get insight into these things is to understand the transtheoretical model of behavior change, also known as The Stages of Change. This workshop will provide you with information that sheds light on the confusing behavior you may be seeing, and give you positive, strategic ways to interact with your child at each stage.

We’re excited to share this enlightening model with you, it will change how you see and interact with your child during this challenging time.

Completing this course will help you:

  • Learn the six stages of change requited for a person to make lasting change in their life

  • Identify behaviors that indicate which stage your child is in

  • Learn effective stragegies to use at each stage to motivate your child to consider, plan and participate in positive changes

  • Identify the "Invitation to Change Approach" skills that align with each stage

  • Build confidence in how you approach your child

  • Create conditions for change in your home and relationships

This course is for parents or caregivers who have a child experimenting with or addicted to drugs or alcohol. The young person may be a teen or young adult who’s substance use is negatively impacting their, and your life.

10-Week Online CRAFT Group for Parents & Partners

$100 per session per family plus $200 intake (sliding scale available) • Online

Addiction can have a negative impact on anyone caught in its wake. If you are a concerned loved one (family member, romantic partner, etc.) of someone struggling to change their relationship with substances, you may be interested in finding new ways to support this person.

This 10-week group for concerned significant others (CSO) does just this by utilizing strategies put forth by Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT), an evidence-based, proven effective approach to helping those close to someone with substance use issues. In an online group format, you will develop skills to help your loved one reduce their problematic substance use, obtain treatment, and improve your own mental well-being.

This group you will help you

  • Develop a better understanding of what leads to your loved one’s misuse of drugs and alcohol

  • Identify triggers and patterns leading to substance use

  • Understand signs of intoxication

  • Reward positive behavior and change

  • Ignore intoxication (and learn why that can be good!)

  • Learn how and when to best intervene with treatment

  • Develop effective communication skills

  • Take care of yourself and build support

The curriculum is based on CRAFT and utilizes material from The 20 Minute Guide for Parents & The 20 Minute Guide for Partners
